visit, Gebouw 20, Hoenderloseweg 10, 6816 SW Arnhem/Deelen.
- 1910 - Clement van
Maasdijk died in a crash of his Sommer Bi-plane during an exercise run in
preparation for an Air Show to be held on the Kemperbergse heath fields North
of Warnsborn, part of nowadays Deelen AB.
- 1914 Air strip build by
the Royal Dutch Army and occupied by 9 Henri Farman F-20's and F-22's for
reconnaissance.
- 1919 KLM Airlines
officially erected.
- 1928-34 KLM organized
pleasure flights across Holland and used the Deelen Air strip.
- 1940 Deelen Air strip
destroyed by Dutch Army before capitulating to the German Army.
- 1940-41 Luftwaffe rebuild
"Fliegerhorst Deelen" into a modern Air Base in the famous -A-configuration,
with 60 hangars and an ultra modern infra structure, including a dummy airport
further to the North, a huge air traffic control center "Diogenes" and radar
station "Teerosen". Airplanes occupying Deelen were: Messerschnitt Bf
110, -Bf 109, -Me 410, Junkers Ju 88, -Ju 188, Dornier Do 17, -Do
217, Focke Wulf 190, Heinkel He 219 and advanced preparations were found at Deelen AB
for the housing of the Messerschnitt Me 163 jet fighter and the V-2 rocket.
- 1944 Deelen bombed by 94
RAF Avro Lancasters and taken out of commission.
- 1946 KLM had an eye on
Deelen to make it into the biggest civilian airport of that time. But already
then nature protecting activists within government put an end to this dream.
- 1946-47 Deelen was used
as a Canadian Demob Vehicle Park occupied by 10th of thousands of tanks and
vehicles.
- 1947 Deelen became the
center for technical education of the RDAF.
- 1947-51 Rebuilding of the
runways.
- 1951-57 Deelen housed 298
Squadron: Auster Mk. III, Piper L-18C and Hiller H-23B.
- 1956-57 Deelen housed 299
Squadron: Piper L-18C, Piper L-21A and Hiller H-23B.
- 1957-63 Deelen housed 306
Squadron: Republic RF-84F and Lockheed T-33A.
- 1962-95 Deelen housed 299
Squadron: Piper L-21B, Hiller H-23B, Sud Avion SE 3160, Messerschnitt Bolkow and Blohm BO-105C.
- 1976 Deelen was decor for
the movie "A bridge too far" with rebuilt Horsa gliders and DC-47's.
- 1992 Deelen was
attacked by peace activists who penetrated security and managed to damaged 8 and
destroy 1 Bolkow helicopters.
- 1995 Deelen AB is put on
non active status.

Deelen has and is being used as an exercise terrain for the transport
helicopter groups of the Royal Dutch Air Force and the Air Mobile Brigade.
